We run junior summer courses for English language students aged between 10 - 18. We have students from all over the world. The majority will be Italian, but we also have students from Spain, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic, Argentina and Cyprus to name a few. Students usually stay for two weeks and take part in a mixed programme of lessons and activities/excursions which are run by Activity Leaders.

At Target English International we aim to provide our students with a comfortable and caring setting in the UK to improve their communication in English and develop skills for a more global society. We want our students to leave the course with a better understanding of UK culture and the inspiration to become life-long learners of English.

Overview of role:

Teachers are responsible for teaching 10-18-year-old students on our short summer courses. Teachers usually work mornings and afternoons on our zigzag timetable, teaching 4 x 1.5 hour lessons a day. All teachers receive an on-site induction with the Director of Studies and the Target English International syllabus and a range of materials are available in each centre.


Our course
We focus on developing fluency skills and building student confidence in a friendly and stimulating environment. Our in-house syllabus is based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The language course includes:
  • Oral and written placement test to select class level 
  • 15 hours of English language tuition per week (students take 20 lessons per week and each lesson is 45 minutes long)
  • Maximum 18 students per class
  • Morning and afternoon teaching timetable, 09:00-12:30 and 14:00-17:30 (exact times of classes may vary dependent on centre)
  • Enterprise English workshops sessions (age and level dependent B1 and above,16 years and over) focussing on preparing students for the world of work; writing CVs, interview techniques and business role play
  • Some lessons will focus on improving students' knowledge and understanding of Cambridge Exams at either KET, PET or FCE level

Centre Specific Information: 

Contracts: usually 4 weeks (occasionally some shorter contracts are available) and extensions are possible in some locations

Dates: end June to mid August 

Bath, Liverpool, Edinburgh, London Hatfield, London Harrow, Colchester and Hull - Teaching only

30 contact hours over 5 days per week

No pastoral duties or activities

Salary range :

Overall range £550 - £750 (depending on experience, qualifications and accommodation requirements).
Throughout your contract, you will accrue holiday pay, which you will receive at the end of your contract.

Residential salaries : £550 - £580 per week (dependent upon experience and qualifications), package includes accommodation and full board provided in addition to weekly pay, plus accrued holiday pay.

Non-residential salaries : £720 - £750 per week (dependent upon experience and qualifications), plus accrued holiday pay and lunch provided.
