Teaching Assistant SEND Apprenticeship - Millstead Primary School
Summary
The role includes providing tailored support to help pupils overcome barriers linked to sensory, behavioural, communication, medical or physical needs. The learner will also assist other staff under the direction of the class teacher or learning support officer.

£13,000 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
- Contribute to curriculum planning and evaluation, supporting the implementation of teaching programmes
- Assist in lesson delivery and interact effectively with teachers and pupils
- Adapt learning activities in response to pupil needs and progress
- Support the use of ICT in learning, helping pupils build confidence and independence in technology use
- Provide individual and group support, explaining tasks, reinforcing key concepts, and maintaining pupil engagement and motivation
- Deliver short sessions to the whole class, such as reading activities
- Encourage communication and participation through role play and interactive tasks
- Promote inclusion, teamwork, and positive pupil relationships
- Foster independence, confidence, and self-esteem among pupils
- Assist in lesson planning, delivery, and evaluation in collaboration with teaching staff
- Monitor pupil progress and provided constructive feedback to the teacher
- Contribute to assessment through observation, reporting, and accurate record keeping
- Support classroom management through the preparation and organisation of resources, equipment, and materials
- Complete administrative tasks such as producing learning materials and managing coursework
- Liaise with parents, carers, specialist teachers, and external professionals to support pupil development
- Ensure the safety, welfare, and inclusion of pupils, providing personal and hygiene support where required

Expected Duration:16 months - Training: All training will be delivered online alongside full-time placement at school
Requirements
Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
Maths and English (grade 4)
Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
