Attendance & Education Welfare Officer - Secondary School...
A large and well-established 11–18 secondary school in Liverpool is seeking a proactive and organised Attendance & Education Welfare Officer to strengthen its pastoral and safeguarding provision. The school serves a diverse community and has developed clear systems around behaviour, attendance and parental engagement.
Attendance is a central priority within the school’s improvement strategy, and this role plays a key part in ensuring pupils attend regularly, barriers are identified early and families are supported appropriately.
The Role
You will take responsibility for monitoring, analysing and improving student attendance across all year groups. Working closely with Heads of Year, safeguarding leads and senior leadership, you will ensure that attendance procedures are robust, consistent and legally compliant.
Key responsibilities include:
• Monitoring daily attendance and identifying patterns of concern
• Following up on unexplained absences in line with safeguarding protocols
• Meeting with parents to support improved attendance
• Coordinating interventions for persistent absenteeism
• Preparing attendance reports for senior leaders and governors
• Liaising with external agencies where appropriate
You will maintain accurate records using the school’s MIS system and ensure communication with families is professional and timely.
The School Environment
This Liverpool secondary school has invested heavily in clear pastoral systems, with strong Heads of Year and a visible safeguarding team. Behaviour expectations are consistent, and leadership is proactive in addressing attendance challenges.
The school uses structured data systems to track attendance trends and regularly reviews strategies to improve punctuality and engagement.
Who We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will:
• Have experience working in a school attendance or pastoral role
• Understand safeguarding, attendance legislation and education welfare procedures
• Demonstrate strong organisational and analytical skills
• Communicate confidently and sensitively with families
• Be calm, persistent and solution-focused
Experience with school MIS systems such as SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom would be advantageous.
What’s On Offer
• Competitive salary based on experience
• Clear pastoral systems and leadership support
• Opportunities for professional development
• A structured and improvement-focused school environment
• The opportunity to make a measurable difference to student outcomes
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced attendance professional to take on a central role in a well-led Liverpool secondary school.
