Key Responsibilities

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering 1:1 support for pupils with additional needs

• Supporting small group interventions in literacy, numeracy, communication, and emotional regulation

• Helping pupils access the curriculum alongside their peers

• Implementing strategies detailed in EHCPs, IEPs, and behaviour support plans

• Assisting with emotional regulation, sensory needs, and social interaction

• Encouraging positive behaviour, independence, and self-confidence

• Supporting pupils during classroom activities, transitions, playtimes, and lunchtimes

• Preparing resources and visual aids to enhance learning

• Observing and recording pupil progress and feeding back to teaching staff

• Collaborating closely with class teachers, SENCO, and external professionals

• Maintaining a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment

• Supporting personal care where required, with training provided

• Adhering to all safeguarding and child protection procedures

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant who:

• Has experience supporting children with SEN in school or care settings

• Is patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient

• Understands Autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication needs

• Can confidently implement positive behaviour strategies

• Is proactive, reliable, and flexible

• Works well in a team and communicates effectively with staff and parents

• Is available for an ASAP start

• Demonstrates a commitment to safeguarding and child welfare

Experience supporting EHCPs, speech and language interventions, sensory integration strategies, or SEMH support is desirable, but training will be provided for the right candidate.
