Attendance & Family Liaison Officer - Community Primary...
A large and inclusive community primary school in Liverpool is seeking a proactive and compassionate Attendance & Family Liaison Officer to strengthen its pastoral and safeguarding provision. The school serves a diverse local community and places strong emphasis on attendance, early intervention and positive relationships with families.
This is a pivotal role within the school’s wider pastoral team. You will work closely with senior leaders, class teachers and external agencies to ensure pupils attend regularly, feel supported and can access education without barriers.
The Role
As Attendance & Family Liaison Officer, you will lead on monitoring, tracking and improving pupil attendance across the school. You will use data effectively to identify patterns of absence, support families and implement targeted interventions where needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
Monitoring daily attendance and following up on absences promptly
Identifying trends in persistent absence and implementing action plans
Conducting home visits where appropriate
Working closely with families to remove barriers to attendance
Liaising with the local authority and education welfare services
Supporting safeguarding referrals where necessary
Maintaining accurate attendance records and reporting to senior leaders
You will also support wider pastoral initiatives, contributing to early help meetings and safeguarding discussions.
The School
This Liverpool primary school has invested significantly in strengthening its pastoral and inclusion team. The school’s leadership recognises that strong attendance underpins academic progress and wellbeing.
The school environment is structured and supportive, with clear behaviour systems and strong safeguarding procedures. There is a well-established DSL team and a collaborative approach between teaching and non-teaching staff.
The building includes modernised office space, a family support meeting room and designated safeguarding areas to ensure confidential and professional engagement with families.
The Working Environment
You will be part of a committed pastoral team that values consistency, empathy and proactive communication. Senior leaders are visible and engaged, and attendance is reviewed regularly within leadership meetings.
The school prioritises early intervention and relationship-building rather than punitive approaches. The culture is one of support, accountability and community partnership.
About You
Experience in school attendance, pastoral support or family liaison
Strong understanding of safeguarding and early help processes
Confident in conducting home visits and sensitive conversations
Skilled in data tracking and reporting
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Experience within a primary setting is desirable, though strong candidates from secondary schools or local authority roles will also be considered.
What’s on Offer
A meaningful pastoral role within a supportive school
Clear leadership direction and structured systems
Opportunities for training in safeguarding and attendance law
A stable, community-focused working environment
Competitive salary reflective of experience
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced attendance professional who is passionate about improving outcomes and supporting families within a Liverpool primary school.
