Part-Time Financial Controller – Liverpool
Location: Liverpool & Surrounding areas (Onsite)
Rate: £35 per hour
Commitment: 2–3 days per week
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-focused Financial Controller to join The Part-Time Finance People supporting our clients across Liverpool and the surrounding areas.
Our business partners with ambitious SMEs that need senior-level financial expertise without the cost of a full-time hire. This role is ideal for a commercially astute Financial Controller who can take ownership of the finance function, strengthen financial processes, and deliver clear, actionable insight to business owners on a part-time basis.
You will play a key role in improving reporting accuracy, enhancing financial visibility, and supporting strategic decision-making.
About You
You are an experienced Financial Controller with a strong background in supporting growing SMEs. Ideally, you are already operating on a self-employed basis and can commit to at least two days per week, with availability to start in the near term.
You will bring:
Preparation and review of monthly management accounts and board-level reports
Balance sheet reconciliations and oversight of ledger integrity
Cashflow management, forecasting, and profit modelling
Strong working knowledge of Xero (exposure to Sage 50 and QuickBooks advantageous)
Experience reviewing and implementing robust financial controls and processes
A commercially focused mindset with the ability to challenge and support business leaders
Oversight of year-end processes (excluding statutory accounts preparation)
Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, SUMIFS, and financial analysis tools
Confidence presenting financial and commercial insights to non-financial stakeholders
Full professional qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACMA/FCCA/ICAEW) or QBE with 5+ years’ experience
Previous experience managing or mentoring a finance team
