Location:L12
Hourly rate: £13.80 + Holiday pay
Hours:Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
Start Date:ASAP
Contract:Until July (potential to continue)
About the Role
We are looking for a caring, confident and proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Reception child with Down Syndrome in a welcoming primary school in L12. This is a rewarding role supporting a pupil who responds well to clear boundaries and consistent guidance.
We are seeking someone who is warm, firm and able to give clear instructions. The pupil works mainly in the classroom, with some 1:1 sessions outside the classroom, and benefits from encouragement to stay engaged in class activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 support to a Reception child with Down Syndrome
- Encourage participation in classroom activities and help maintain focus
- Support learning both in class and during 1:1 sessions
- Promote independence, confidence and positive social interaction
- Assist with toileting when needed (pupil is toilet trained but may have occasional accidents)
- Maintain close supervision, including monitoring for mouthing behaviours
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher, SEN team and wider staff
About the Child
- A lovely, friendly Reception pupil
- No challenging behaviour
- Responds well to firm, confident guidance
- Toilet trained but may need support
- Occasionally puts objects in her mouth, so close supervision is essential
What We’re Looking For
- Experience supporting children in Early Years or primary settings
- Understanding of Down Syndrome or willingness to learn
- A calm, nurturing and patient approach
- Confidence in setting boundaries and giving clear instructions
- Ability to build a positive, trusting relationship
- Reliability, good communication skills and a proactive attitude
