Learning Support Assistant
Learning Support Assistant (LSA) – Alternative Provision / SEMH / SEN Location: Liverpool Hours: Full-time Contract: Long-term placements Pay Rate: £90–£120 per day (dependent on experience) About the Role Teaching Personnel is recruiting Learning Support Assistants to work across a range of Alternative Provision, SEMH, and specialist SEN schools across Liverpool. These full-time, long-term roles involve supporting pupils who require additional support to access education due to social, emotional, and behavioural needs or complex learning difficulties. You will work closely with teachers and specialist staff to support pupils with a variety of needs including SEMH, ASD, ADHD, trauma-related behaviours, and moderate to complex learning difficulties. Many pupils in these settings benefit from smaller class sizes and a personalised approach to learning, meaning your role will be key in helping them engage with education, build confidence, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally. Key Responsibilities Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs Support pupils with SEMH, SEN, ASD, ADHD, and behavioural needs Assist teachers in delivering engaging and accessible lessons Implement behaviour support strategies and individual learning plans Support pupils in developing confidence, independence, and emotional regulation Work positively with pupils who may display challenging behaviour Observe and monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff Support pupils with personal care where required Maintain high standards of safeguarding, behaviour management, and health & safety Help create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment About You You may already have experience working with children or young people in education, alternative provision, youth work, care, or support settings. The most important qualities for this role are patience, resilience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs. These roles are particularly suited to individuals who can build positive relationships, remain calm in challenging situations, and support pupils in managing their behaviour and emotions effectively. Essential Requirements Experience working with children or young people (education, care, youth work, or support roles) Experience within a UK school or education setting A patient, flexible, and proactive approach Strong communication and teamwork skills Ability to adapt to different specialist school environments Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply) Right to work in the UK GCSE Grade C / Grade 4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths Desirable NVQ Level 2 or Level 3 in Teaching Assistant, Childcare, or similar Experience supporting pupils in SEMH or Alternative Provision settings Team Teach or behaviour management training Safeguarding training and a strong understanding of child protection procedures Why Work with Teaching Personnel?
