Attendance & Family Support Officer - Secondary School -...
A well-regarded secondary school in Liverpool is seeking a proactive, people-focused Attendance & Family Support Officer to join its pastoral team. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who combines strong organisation with warmth, persistence and the ability to build trusted relationships with pupils and families.
The school has a calm, structured culture with clear routines and a strong safeguarding ethos. Attendance is treated as a key driver of wellbeing and achievement, and this role plays a vital part in ensuring pupils feel supported to attend regularly and engage positively.
About the Role
As Attendance & Family Support Officer , you will play a central role in improving attendance and punctuality, reducing persistent absence and ensuring that pupils and families receive timely support when challenges arise.
You will work closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff and senior leaders to:
Monitor daily attendance and punctuality, ensuring accurate follow-up of absence
Make first-day calls and maintain clear, professional records of contact and outcomes
Identify patterns and barriers to attendance (routine, anxiety, health, family circumstances) and coordinate practical support
Build strong relationships with families and work in partnership to secure sustained improvement
Support attendance meetings, action plans and referrals where appropriate
Liaise with external agencies and local authority teams when needed
Contribute to whole-school systems that promote strong routines, engagement and positive culture
This is a role where your attention to detail matters — but your ability to communicate with empathy, clarity and high expectations is what makes the difference.
The Pastoral Culture
The school’s pastoral structure is well established and supportive. Year teams and safeguarding staff work closely to ensure concerns are identified early and acted on quickly. Attendance is approached as part of the school’s wider wellbeing and safeguarding strategy, not simply an administrative task.
You will be joining a school where:
Routines are consistent and expectations are clear
Staff work as a team to support pupils and families
Systems are organised, allowing effective follow-up and targeted support
Attendance work is valued and supported by leadership
About the School
