Attendance & Family Support Officer - Secondary School -...

Marchant Recruitment
Liverpool

A well-regarded secondary school in Liverpool is seeking a proactive, people-focused Attendance & Family Support Officer to join its pastoral team. This is a highly rewarding role for someone who combines strong organisation with warmth, persistence and the ability to build trusted relationships with pupils and families.

The school has a calm, structured culture with clear routines and a strong safeguarding ethos. Attendance is treated as a key driver of wellbeing and achievement, and this role plays a vital part in ensuring pupils feel supported to attend regularly and engage positively.

About the Role

As Attendance & Family Support Officer , you will play a central role in improving attendance and punctuality, reducing persistent absence and ensuring that pupils and families receive timely support when challenges arise.

You will work closely with pastoral leaders, safeguarding staff and senior leaders to:

  • Monitor daily attendance and punctuality, ensuring accurate follow-up of absence

  • Make first-day calls and maintain clear, professional records of contact and outcomes

  • Identify patterns and barriers to attendance (routine, anxiety, health, family circumstances) and coordinate practical support

  • Build strong relationships with families and work in partnership to secure sustained improvement

  • Support attendance meetings, action plans and referrals where appropriate

  • Liaise with external agencies and local authority teams when needed

  • Contribute to whole-school systems that promote strong routines, engagement and positive culture

This is a role where your attention to detail matters — but your ability to communicate with empathy, clarity and high expectations is what makes the difference.

The Pastoral Culture

The school’s pastoral structure is well established and supportive. Year teams and safeguarding staff work closely to ensure concerns are identified early and acted on quickly. Attendance is approached as part of the school’s wider wellbeing and safeguarding strategy, not simply an administrative task.

You will be joining a school where:

  • Routines are consistent and expectations are clear

  • Staff work as a team to support pupils and families

  • Systems are organised, allowing effective follow-up and targeted support

  • Attendance work is valued and supported by leadership

About the School

This Liverpool secondary school serves a diverse community and has developed a purposeful learning environment where pupils are encouraged to aim high and feel supported. Behaviour systems are consistent, classrooms are calm, and staff benefit from supportive leadership and clear processes.

The school is committed to inclusion and works hard to remove barriers that may prevent pupils from attending and thriving.

Key Information

  • Location: Liverpool

  • Start Date: ASAP / next term (or by agreement)

  • Contract: Full-time, permanent (or as agreed)

  • Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

What the School is Looking For

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Experience in attendance, family support, pastoral work, education welfare or a similar role

  • Strong communication skills and confidence working with families sensitively

  • Excellent organisation and accurate record keeping

  • Confidence using IT systems, including spreadsheets and database-style systems

  • A clear understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries

  • The ability to remain calm, consistent and solution-focused in challenging situations

School-based experience is desirable, but strong transferable experience will be considered.

Why Join This School

  • A role with real impact on pupils’ wellbeing, safeguarding and long-term outcomes

  • Supportive pastoral leadership and clear routines that make attendance work effective

  • Opportunity to build trusted relationships with families and pupils

  • Collaborative team environment with high professional standards

  • Meaningful work in a school community committed to student success

This is an excellent opportunity for an Attendance & Family Support Officer who wants to make a genuine difference — helping pupils attend consistently, engage confidently and achieve their potential in a supportive Liverpool secondary school.
