Finance Officer - Merseyside - January 2026
A successful and financially stable secondary school in Merseyside is seeking a skilled and dependable Finance Officer to join its business support team from January 2026. This is a key operational role within the school, supporting both day-to-day financial processes and longer-term planning.
The school has a strong reputation locally for being well-run, transparent and staff-focused. Finance staff are respected as professionals and work closely with senior leaders to ensure resources are used effectively in support of students and staff.
The Role
You will work as part of a small, experienced finance team, reporting to the School Business Manager and supporting senior leaders with accurate, compliant financial management.
Key responsibilities include:
Processing purchase orders, invoices and reconciliations
Monitoring departmental budgets and expenditure
Supporting monthly and year-end financial reporting
Maintaining accurate records for audit and compliance purposes
Liaising with suppliers and contractors
Supporting procurement and value-for-money initiatives

The School Is Looking For
Experience in a finance or accounts role (education or public sector desirable)
