Job description The 2 roles sit within CS&TD's Finance Business Partnering and Planning team, working closely with Finance Business Partners to deliver a high‑quality financial management service to CS&TD Directorates. Each Directorate operates in a distinct context, making the Finance Lead role both varied and engaging, with strong opportunities for professional development. Successful candidates will build and maintain effective working relationships with Business Management teams and a wide range of stakeholders, providing insight, challenge, and support to help Directorates achieve their financial and performance objectives. In these roles you will:- Lead the production of accurate and robust monthly forecasts and workforce plans for CS&TD Directorates, ensuring clear alignment to agreed budgets and priorities.
- Proactively engage senior stakeholders to develop a strong understanding of cost drivers and assumptions, providing effective challenge, identifying financial risks and opportunities, and influencing informed decision‑making.
- Work closely with business areas experiencing forecast volatility to diagnose issues, agree corrective actions, and track delivery of improvements.
- Undertake analysis of historical spend, including run‑rate and trend analysis, to inform future forecasts and planning assumptions.
- Provide high‑quality financial advice, insight and analysis to support in‑year planning, prioritisation and resource allocation, including coaching and feedback to strengthen financial capability across the business.
- Prepare clear and insightful monthly SLT reports, explaining in‑month and full‑year variances and highlighting emerging risks and mitigations.
- Produce Directorate‑level reporting to support the monthly Management Accounts process.
- Play a proactive role in supporting Finance Business Partners and Directorates with Spending Reviews, annual business planning, and longer‑term workforce and financial planning.
- Maintain and strengthen financial controls and assurance, ensuring clear audit trails, timely completion of key processes (e.g. budget transfers, accruals and returns), and continuous improvement of financial control tools (including Group Power BI).
- Support Directorates to improve understanding of financial policies, standards, accountabilities and controls, including compliance requirements such as T&S.
- Deputise for the G7 Finance Business Partner as required.
- Recent experience in a finance role with a strong focus on budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis, supporting effective financial control and decision‑making.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and provide constructive challenge to stakeholders at all levels, both verbally and in writing, including non‑finance audiences.
- Proven ability to make effective use of financial management systems (e.g. SAP FM or equivalent accounting systems).
- Strong digital and IT capability, particularly advanced use of Microsoft Excel, alongside wider proficiency in Microsoft Office and Office 365 tools.
- Well‑developed analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial information, identify trends and risks, and present clear, evidence‑based insights.
- Previous line management or experience of managing the workload of an individual/team.
- Qualified or working towards a CCAB or CIMA qualification, or interest in gaining one.
