AD HOC Discovery Internship: Insight and Impact Intern (Youth Services) (Conquer Life)

Conquer Life CIC is a youth and community organisation based in Bootle, Merseyside. We empower young people to develop the personal and social skills needed to achieve their goals through creative, engaging and supportive programmes.
Our flagship programme, VIBE, is a weekly open-access youth provision for young people aged 11–18, offering a safe space to socialise, express themselves and access support from trusted adults. VIBE has grown into a vibrant creative community, supporting hundreds of young people each year.
The intern will be based at The Linacre Community Centre, working alongside our youth work team within our VIBE Youth Services.
Purpose of the
This internship will support the development of a new Insight & Impact system within Conquer Life CIC.
The purpose of the is to help us better understand:
- Why young people engage with our services
- What impact our work is having
- How we can continuously improve our offer
Data Collection & Analysis
- Collect and organise feedback and participation data from youth sessions
- Identify patterns, trends and key insights from both qualitative and quantitative data
- Support the development of clear and accessible ways to present findings
Duties and responsibilities
The intern will play a key in capturing youth voice, analysing data and helping to embed simple, sustainable systems that strengthen both our practice and our evidence for future funding.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
Youth Voice & Insight Gathering
- Design and deliver simple, engaging feedback methods (e.g. short surveys, interactive activities, focus groups)
- Engage directly with young people to capture their experiences, opinions and ideas
- Support the facilitation of small group discussions to explore themes in more depth
Impact & Evaluation
- Review current monitoring and evaluation approaches used by the organisation
- Contribute to the development of simple tools to measure outcomes (e.g. wellbeing, confidence, engagement)
- Assist in producing short impact summaries and case studies
System Development (Legacy Focus)
- Help design a sustainable “Insight & Impact” system that can be used by staff beyond the internship
- Create templates, guidance and simple processes for ongoing data collection and reporting
- Support staff to understand and use these tools in practice
Collaboration & Learning
- Work closely with youth workers to understand delivery in a real-world setting
- Contribute ideas to improve programmes based on insights gathered
- Reflect on learning and contribute to a final summary of findings and recommendations

Skills and experience
We are looking for a motivated and thoughtful student who is interested in applying their academic learning in a real-world youth and community setting. This opportunity is suitable for students at Levels 5 and 6, who are keen to develop practical experience in research, evaluation and working with young people.
Essential Skills & Attributes
- Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with a range of people, including young people aged 11–18 *
- Approachable, friendly and able to build rapport in informal settings
- Able to listen actively and capture othersʼ views accurately
Research & Analytical Thinking
- Basic understanding of research methods (qualitative and/or quantitative)
- Ability to gather, organise and interpret information
- Comfortable identifying patterns, themes and key insights from data
Organisation & Attention to Detail
- Able to manage tasks effectively and work to deadlines
- Attention to detail when recording and handling data
- Ability to follow processes while also showing initiative
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience working or volunteering with young people or in community settings
- Knowledge of survey design, focus groups or data collection methods
- Confidence using tools such as Microsoft Excel, Google Forms or similar
- Interest in youth work, social impact, mental health or community development
- Ability to present information in a clear and engaging way (written or visual)
