Probation officer for YOT transition
Location: North Liverpool (working across the Probation Delivery Unit and Youth Offending Service office)
Hours: Full Time – 37 hours per week Pay rate: £28.63 ltd per hour (umbrella rate) or £20.30 PAYE equivalent per hour Overview We are seeking a motivated and collaborative Probation Officer to support transition work between the Probation Service and the Youth Offending Service (YOS) across North Liverpool. This role focuses on supporting young People on Probation (PoPs) as they transition from youth to adult services, ensuring continuity of support, effective risk management, and positive outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with YOS colleagues and Probation staff to coordinate and manage the transition process, providing a seamless handover for young people entering adult probation supervision. Key Responsibilities Lead and support transition planning for young PoPs moving from YOS to the Probation Service.
Work jointly with YOS practitioners to identify young people approaching transition and begin early engagement.
Attend and contribute to multi-agency meetings to ensure coordinated support and risk management.
Maintain strong partnership working between the Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) and the YOS team.
Deliver structured supervision to young PoPs in line with probation standards and case management expectations.
Support young people to access services that promote desistance, including education, training, employment, accommodation, and wellbeing services.
Share information effectively between agencies to ensure safeguarding and public protection.
Work flexibly between the PDU office and the YOS office to maintain close working relationships with both teams.Person Specification Essential Qualified Probation Officer (PQF or equivalent recognised qualification).
Experience working with young people or individuals transitioning from youth to adult services.
Strong partnership working skills and the ability to collaborate across agencies.
Knowledge of risk assessment, safeguarding, and public protection procedures.
Ability to engage and motivate young people with complex needs.Desirable Experience working directly within or alongside a Youth Offending Service.
Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and desistance-focused practice.Working Pattern This is a full-time role of 37 hours per week. The postholder will work flexibly between the Probation Delivery Unit (PDU) office and the Youth Offending Service (YOS) office in North Liverpool.
